Holiday Makeup: subtle sparkles without the kitsch

The holiday season means you can definitely get away with some looks you typically wouldn’t be able to. Each event calls for a special outfit and some fun touches to your normal makeup routine.

It may be tempting to wear all of your sparkly, sequined, and over the top outfits during this time of year. However, there should be some caution used before putting some glitter everywhere. The best accessory to your outfit is a small amount of shimmer, without it looking caked on or overdone.

Need some ideas on how to make your holiday makeup ‘pop’? Some small touches of festive sparkles will give your look a distinct holiday touch.

  1. Marbleized Eye shadow – Instead of donning the heavy eyeliner, try focusing more on a uniquely toned eye shadow. The Baked Marbleized Eye Shadow in Dove Tail is an easy to wear option that is light and provides just enough shine. Plus, it features three different pigments that blend together, and are crease-resistant.

  1. Silk Finish – If you’re opting for a bolder radiance, try the Silk Finish Eye Shadow in Gilded Taupe, Cat’s Eye Quartz, or Chantilly. Depending on your outfit, these shades provide the perfect amount of sparkle. These shadows feature micro-encapsulated pigments that provide reflective properties, and are long lasting.

  1. Lips – If there’s ever a perfect moment to put on some red lipstick, it’s definitely during the holidays. Try the Ever Dream Lipstick in Red Carpet Red or Micro Red, and perfect your pout by pairing it with a Perfect Blend Lip Pencil in Scarlet Red. A quick tip: to make sure your lipstick won’t fade into a weird ‘O’ around your lips, fill in your lips with your lip pencil after lining them.
